Franci Matoz has taken office as the new Minister of the Interior and Public Administration

SLOVENIA, June 5 - Upon taking office, Franci Matoz, Minister of the Interior and Public Administration, stated that he was taking over the ministry and the police force in a situation that was far from rosy, and that he would therefore get to work immediately. "We are taking over the Police – or rather, the Ministry of the Interior, which includes the Police as a body within the ministry – in a situation that is not exactly rosy, and this is not directed at Mr Zlobko, but at the overall situation. I am partially familiar with it, as you heard in my presentation, so there is not much time – we need to get to work."

Regarding the highway police, Matoz said that it would be established as soon as possible, given the current state of traffic safety, particularly the current situation on the motorways. Speaking about the new acting Director General of the Police, Danijel Lorbek, he said that Lorbek was a career police officer who had held important positions and was competent.

The outgoing Minister of the Interior, Branko Zlobko, said that he had taken over the leadership of the ministry in November 2025, a challenging period when the public’s expectations and demands –particularly regarding the provision of public safety – had been exceptionally high. He sincerely thanked the ministry’s staff for their dedication, excellent cooperation and trust.
